Camp:
The Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington, Puget Sound Blood Center – Hemophilia Care Program
and in collaboration with the Inland Empire Bleeding Disorder Foundation is able to provide Camp I-VY.
An annul event for individuals and families affected by a bleeding disorder.
Camp I-VY gives children and adults with bleeding disorders the chance to experience the great outdoors,
while providing education in a fun format. Camp I-VY is a five day event; families can interact and learn
how others live with their bleeding disorders. Since it’s beginning in 1975, an increasing number of families
have been involved in Camp I-VY. Each leaving with unique memories and some individuals come back as counselors,
giving back to Camp I-VY.
The Children and Teens:
Camp I-VY is especially memorable for the children. Morning, afternoon and evening are filled with an exciting
agenda. Energetic counselors lead summer activities suitable for each age group. While swimming, hiking, archery,
capture the flag, rope course, arts and crafts each camper acquires self confidence and esteem that they can draw
from to assist with their lives and bleeding disorder.
Children age 5-16 are assigned a counselor: three campers per to one counselor. Daycare is provided to infant,
toddlers and preschoolers. Medical care is provided 24-5. What each child and teen experience is very special and
empowering. For five days they are surrounded by individuals who have or understand bleeding disorders.
The Parents
Like the children parents are involved in planned activities. In addition to events involving the entire camp,
parents attend educational sessions that provide current medical information, networking opportunities and
empowerment tools.
At support meetings parents can share ways of coping with a bleeding disorder. Most importantly,
parents are given peace of mind as they observe their child in camp activities.
